Design Language
The Tiangong 06 showcases Hongqi New Energy's all-new, youthful design philosophy. The front fascia sports a closed-off nose with a striking inverted trapezoidal panel, centred around an illuminated vertical Hongqi emblem, flanked by slim, elongated headlamp units rather than a split-light setup. The lower bumper features an open trapezoidal intake accented with a silver bash plate, flanked by triangular aero vents in the fog lamp area. The side profile looks sleek, incorporating a fastback silhouette alongside flush pop-out door handles. At the rear, distinctive L-shaped tail lamp clusters are paired with a roof spoiler and a substantial silver diffuser-style skid plate. Overall aerodynamic drag is rated at an impressive 0.259 Cd. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,750 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall, riding on a 2,900 mm wheelbase. Exterior paint choices include five shades such as Yunxi White and Jiye Black, while the cabin offers five dual-tone palettes including Yubai Grey and Xianyun Purple. The interior is lavishly appointed with full soft-touch upholstery and a faux suede headliner, anchored by a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating touchscreen on the dashboard. The conventional instrument cluster has been eliminated in favour of a dual-focal-plane AR-HUD head-up display.
Powertrain and Performance
The Tiangong 06 provides dual 400V and 900V high-voltage platforms, along with RWD and AWD powertrain options. For the 2025 400V models, the single-motor RWD variant produces a maximum output of 210 kW (286 PS), offering a CLTC range of either 520 km or 700 km; the dual-motor AWD version delivers a combined output of 412 kW (560 PS) and 623 Nm of peak torque, completing the 0-100 km/h century sprint in 4.0 seconds. The 0-100 km/h acceleration times across the 2025 range span between 4.0 and 7.4 seconds. Top speed across the entire line-up is capped at 210 km/h. Battery options include ternary lithium battery packs with capacities of 62 kWh and 85 kWh. On the charging front, the 400V platform can juice the battery from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes via DC fast charging.
In August 2025, high-output versions were homologated with China's MIIT: the single-motor version delivers 340 kW paired with a 90+ kWh battery for a 780 km range; the high-output dual-motor AWD variant pairs a 190 kW front motor with a 340 kW rear motor for a combined 530 kW, achieving a 730 km range. The 800V Supercharging Edition released in April 2026 further cuts down charging turnaround times.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinned by the dedicated Tiangong platform, the chassis employs a sophisticated front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension architecture, with extensive use of lightweight aluminium alloy components. Such chassis hardware is a rare luxury in the RM200,000-class pure electric SUV segment. In independent media testing, it cleared the moose test at 75 km/h with mature, non-intrusive ESP intervention. The AWD variant delivers millisecond-level torque distribution response. The chassis setup delivers a planted, confidence-inspiring ride that balances agile handling with everyday comfort. Selected variants also come equipped with CDC continuous damping control. Drive configurations are available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD). Rolling stock consists of 19-inch multi-spoke smoked alloy wheels as standard, with 20-inch items available as an option.
Cabin and Features
Inside, the Tiangong 06 is equipped with the Lingxi Smart Cockpit powered by Hongqi's latest OS and an intelligent AI voice assistant. The infotainment setup centres around a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip (with certain variants utilising the Snapdragon 8155), ensuring snappy operation. The system supports full continuous-speech commands, full-screen "see-and-say" interaction, offline dialogue, and AI large-language-model features. Drivers also benefit from a massive 65-inch dual-focal-plane AR-HUD. For seating comfort, Nappa leather upholstery is standard across the board, with front seats featuring ventilation, heating, and massage functions. The front passenger also enjoys a zero-gravity recliner seat. Audiophiles can opt for a 14-speaker Dynaudio premium sound system. Boot capacity stands at 472 litres, expandable to 1,611 litres with the rear seats folded flat; this is supplemented by a 48-litre front trunk (frunk). The cabin can also be configured into a "one-touch full-flat bed mode".
Safety and Driver Assistance
On the safety front, the Tiangong 06 is engineered to meet dual five-star crash ratings under C-NCAP and E-NCAP protocols, utilising 76% high-strength steel throughout the body with structural strength reaching up to 2,000 MPa. The high-voltage battery pack is IPX8-rated for waterproof protection. Passive safety kit is comprehensive, covering dual front airbags, front side airbags, rear side airbags, front and rear full-length curtain airbags, as well as driver and front passenger knee airbags. For intelligent driving, the vehicle runs Hongqi's in-house "Sinan Intelligent Driving" system. Operating as a vision-only setup (Level 2.9), it marks China's first mass-produced SUV equipped with the Zhuoyu 10V vision-based driver assist suite. A LiDAR-equipped suite is optionally available on higher trims. Key ADAS functionalities include Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), Urban NOA, automated parking assist, multi-storey memory parking, and reverse tracking assist. The vision-only solution boasts a 99% success rate at complex urban junctions. In early 2026, an OTA update further refined the ADAS adaptive cruise control logic, Sentry Mode, and other digital features. Furthermore, the vehicle incorporates a dedicated rear-seat child monitoring system.
Market Performance and Reception
Commercial take-up for the Tiangong 06 fell short of expectations following its rollout, with total cumulative sales in 2025 reaching only 2,229 units; in Q1 2026, only 157 units were delivered. Monthly delivery breakdowns show 35 units in March 2025, 172 units in April, 154 units in May, and 438 units in June; by May 2026, monthly retail volume slid to just 85 units. Industry analysts point out that while the Tiangong 06 delivers solid fundamentals in mechanical refinement, EV architecture, and onboard tech, it continues to face headwinds in brand perception, pricing strategy, and marketing positioning amid a cutthroat NEV landscape.
In terms of product substance, the Tiangong 06 has earned positive reviews from automotive reviewers. Media range-test data revealed an urban range efficiency of 92%, a highway cruising efficiency of 85% at 120 km/h, and an overall real-world range achievement stabilising at 91%. Under cold-weather testing near 0°C, range degradation was kept to around 15%. The chassis compliance and refinement were widely lauded as "an uncompromised, high-cost setup rarely seen in the RM200,000 bracket". Owner feedback highlights the 2,900 mm wheelbase providing class-leading rear legroom; on the flip side, some users noted slight latency when switching dynamic home-screen widgets, alongside room for improvement in voice dialect recognition. In summary, with standout hardware including all-aluminium double-wishbone/five-link suspension, Sinan Intelligent Driving, the Lingxi Smart Cockpit, and a maximum range of 780 km, the Tiangong 06 reflects solid engineering capability in the RM200,000 electric SUV market, though its lacklustre sales highlight the steep uphill battle traditional luxury marques face in their electric transformation.
